The idea and development of ‘Special Needs Taekwon-Do’ came from Benjamin in 2006. It was developed when a physical education assignment at Havelock North High School, required volunteering and giving opportunity for students to learn Taekwon-Do at the special needs unit. To introduce and give a sport a go. Benjamin chose Taekwon-Do and the special needs unit at Havelock North High School. He has researched, developed and written a book being exported all over the world to Taekwon-Do Instructors.
Benjamin’s aspirations of teaching Special Needs Taekwon-Do was never to introduce a watered down system, but to teach and incorporate the correct techniques of Taekwon-Do for the special needs students development of their life skills and health developments. Since 2006, Special Needs Taekwon-Do has successfully developed and spread not only around the country, but the project has been exported internationally.
Our future is bright with General Choi Hong Hi’s son, Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa, who is the President of the International Taekwon-Do Federation. He is looking forward to working together in the near future with Special Needs Taekwon-Do Internationally. We are proud to follow him as he is the future legacy of his father to follow in years to come. Both GM Choi Jung Hwa and GM Trevor Nicholls offer their help and support to Benjamin for the near future.
